Montreal is a crossroad of different culture, especially the gathering between anglo and franco heritages. This disturbed place contributes to energizing new ideas and new musical experimentations. However, these emerging musical genres are outside the mainstream because of their intrinsic value of being new and yet unknown - underground, as some may say. The best way for an emerging artist to survive in a huge industry controlled by major labels and commercial radio is to built slowly a fan club and a network of collaborators. Musicians today are more like medieval artisans: they need to craft their art as well as sell its results. For that reason, GMFT believes in the DIY (Do It Yourself) philosophy. We are self-produced and integrated into a local network of other self-produced artists grouped in SOPREF. |
